The Imposter Lighthouse!

The Basics

Yep, this beauty is an imposter!  Perched majestically on a gorgeous cove in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, it was never a lighthouse.  It was built in 1943 by the Army Corps of Engineers and disguised as a lighthouse, but was actually a watchtower to keep an eye out for German U-boats in the harbor.  While there were multiple versions of this war-time deception built around New England, the “lighthouse” at Smith’s Point is the largest one remaining at 11 stories.

The Beauty

Stately and secluded, it's on private land now and actually part of a home. It’s a challenge to get a shot without trespassing, but the good news is that it hardly has a bad angle!
