Castle Rock Marblehead, MA.

The Basics

Castle Rock is a 1.2-acre park on Marblehead Neck. It features enormous boulders of hardened volcanic ash that thrust into the Atlantic Ocean. Their prominence made them ideal lookout posts to spot incoming fishing fleets as well as enemy ships flying both the French and British flags.

The Beauty

While the structures themselves are impressive, the beauty comes for me, not so much as looking at them as it is looking out from them. A miles-long stretch of beach the right, boulders and crashing waves to the left, and the mighty mother Atlantic straight ahead. Looking east and slightly north is Marblehead Rock also pictured below. Castle Rock is a must-see for any photographer when visiting Marblehead, MA.
